This Is for Everyone (book)

"In the early days of the web, delight and surprise were everywhere, but today online life is as likely to induce anxiety as joy. By steering people away from algorithmic addiction, I hope we can reclaim that delight"
This book left me so hyped and energized for the web that was promised, the power of humanity to collectively build something so powerful, and the power we have to reclaim the "enshitternet" that we live in now. I knew a lot of the stories of the origin of the web, but it was cool to hear of the days when Tim Berners-Lee maintained a list of every web server.
The part that really excited me was the back half, which leaned into the "unfinished story of the World Wide Web." I appreciated the discussion of modern developments, which included the contrast of "attention economy" vs "intention economy", a practical solution to combatting deepfakes. The detailed discussion of https://solidproject.org/ Solid Data Pods was totally new to me and exciting. I spent some time reading Berners-Lee's Design Issues (which he claims is the first ever blog) for more details, and I look forward to exploring this idea more.
